Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) an alliance of networks and organisations working for food sovereignty in Africa, works to influence policies and to promote African solutions for food sovereignty and to serve as a continental platform for consolidation of issues pertaining to food sovereignty.  ACORD Rwanda signed an MOU with AFSA with a purpose to undertake a dialogue on African Food Policy in Rwanda, running from 1st January to 30th June 2021. The general objective of this project is to strengthen the evidence base supporting the need for an African Food Policy that focuses on food systems, current governance structures and policy frameworks, their fitness for purpose, the information sources and influences on which they are based.

Main tasks of RCID Ltd were:

  • To explore the current governance structures and policy frameworks, their fitness for purpose, and the information sources and influences on which they are based
  • To provide facts and inform the national dialogue which will be discussing about a good food system for Rwanda and Africa and how existing policy frameworks are contributing to the definition and design of an African food policy;
  • To review all stakeholders working on food systems to have a common understanding on healthy, safe and sustainable food systems  and what kind of food system works best, and to agree on pathways for a cohesive national/continental food policy.
