Assessment of the gaps of Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) practices and Technologies into the National Agriculture Systems in Rwanda

The Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative (EOAI) program initiated by Africa Union through the support from the Suisse Agency for Development and Cooperation Implemented in 5 countries in Eastern Africa from 2019-2023. The program is expected to increase scaling up the best practices in EOA through adoption and adaptation of innovations of the technologies, systems and practices, by smallholder farmers especially the women and youth.

In this context, Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement (ROAM) is among the beneficiaries of the program has contracted RCID ltd to conduct the assessment of the gaps of Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) practices and Technologies into the National Agriculture Systems in Rwanda.

The main tasks of RCID Ltd were:

  • Assess existing policy gaps in agriculture system specific and provide detailed recommendations on how to meaningfully engage on policy-making processes for strengthening the legal and policy environment to promote EOA in Rwanda and identified stakeholders involved in EOA sectors in Rwanda
  • Identify expected to increase scaling up the best practices in EOA through adoption and adaptation of innovations of the technologies, systems and practices, by smallholder farmers especially the women and youth in districts;
  • Develop the recommendations on entry points and advocacy actions require to create and strengthen EOA related legal, regulatory and policy frameworks in Rwanda.
  • Develop evidence based policy advocacy to influence policy makers to use the findings to inform policy review and change.
