About Us

Regional Research Centre for Integrated Development (RCID Ltd) is a research-based organisation registered in Rwanda since May 2013. RCID Ltd has highly experienced skills in developing and implementing mitigation plans and identifying key planning issues faced during post-disaster recovery. Areas of expertise include assessing the impacts of hazards and enabling communities to accomplish mitigation through comprehensive planning, transportation planning, zoning, and other planning mechanisms. RCID also focuses on Results-based Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (M&E), conducting program evaluations such as Baseline, Mid-term, and End-line assessments, impact assessments, feasibility studies, and gender surveys.

RCID has a strong record of working with local communities and stakeholders across biodiversity management, wildlife management, forestry landscape management (FLR), environment, climate change, water management, food security, nutrition, agriculture, and socio-economic development. Additionally, RCID supports technology dissemination and agricultural information services (Satellite data, GIS, ICT, Drones) and has a solid network of local, regional, and international consultants in various disciplines.

RCID has been actively collaborating with the Rwanda Government and stakeholders on climate change adaptation awareness integrated into research and development. Since 2013, RCID has contributed to the Eastern Africa Community Climate Change Thematic Group and has provided technical assistance in climate change policy. This has involved reviewing existing policies and recommending a comprehensive climate change adaptation strategy for Rwandan agriculture, in partnership with IFPRI.

RCID collaborates with various organizations across levels:

  • National level: Collaborates with local and national partners in public and non-governmental sectors, including academic institutions, private firms, and farmer organizations.
  • Regional level: Works with partners across Eastern Africa in research, education and training, knowledge management, value chain development, policy development, and organizational development. This includes partnerships with National Organic Agriculture Movements (NOAMS) and a long-standing collaboration with Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT/Kenya), IFOAM, Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement (ROAM), ICIPE/Kenya, CIAT, and Access Agriculture. Together, they implement the Africa Knowledge Organic Agriculture Program (2020-2025), funded by GIZ/BMZ, aiming to establish a knowledge hub for Organic Agriculture (OA) within the African context.
  • Continental level: RCID collaborated with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) on the Tobacco Control Capacity Building Program in Africa, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) from 2019 to 2022. In 2021, RCID partnered with Alliance for Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) and ACORD/Rwanda to research food systems and policy frameworks that support African food policy in Rwanda.
  • International level: RCID collaborates with over five international research organizations, working with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, Rockefeller Foundation, and AGRA on the "Food System Transformative Integrated Policy (FS-TIP)" initiative in Rwanda in 2021.
